Silver Star Motors- Mercedes AMG Petronas take out 1 and 2 in Australian Grand Prix
The Australian Formula One Grand Prix concludes with an epic display from the Mercedes AMG Petronas team taking out position one and two on the Australian podium.
With Nico Rosberg claiming a well-earned victory and a perfect start to his 2016 season, team mate Lewis Hamilton followed behind with second position after a poor start off the finish line both dropping Nico to P3 and Lewis P7.
After strong driving and good strategy calls by their teams, both recovered and clung hard from a charging Vettel who closed off in third position.
With dramatic scenes from Spaniard Fernando Alonoso colliding with Mexican Esteban Gutierrez of the new Haas Ferrari team; both walked away unscathed but resulting in the first red flag at the Albert Park Circuit in 21 years since the Australian race came to Melbourne in 1996.
Alonso’s car flew off track, hit the barriers and rebounded and rolled high into a gravel trap. His car was destroyed, but waved to his fans as he luckily walked away.
Rosberg’s win was his second in Melbourne, following his triumph in 2014, and the 15th of his career. “It's been a great weekend,” he said. “The car has been unreal and to beat the Ferraris is just great. I'm super excited…".
Mercedes AMG Petronas (43) lead Ferrari (15) by 28 points in the Constructors Championship.
